[…] The cheap buses are the famous “chicken buses“. These buses are also known as “Camionetas” for the locals. To identify them, imagine a school bus painted with a variety of colors. They always make several stops in the way picking up passengers in the road so the ride can take a little longer. If there’s room for passengers even if the bus seems full, they will get them in […]

What is the best way other than chicken bus to travel from Guatemala City to Huehuetenango and on to Todo Santos?
Comment by Pampa at Jul 1st, 2008 12:24 pm ↑
Hello Warren,
You can take pretty much any of the buses we mention above from Guatemala City to Huehuetenango. It depends what time you would like to leave and where are you in Guatemala City at the moment to choose the best option.
Then, once you are in Huehuetenango there is buses leaving approximately at 3:45 am, 5:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:45pm, 1:30pm, 1:45p,, 2pm, 2:45pm and the last one at 3:45 pm. You can take any of the following bus companies: Chicoyera, Todosanterita, Concepcionerita, Mendoza, Perez and Flor de Maria.
The Huehuetenango Bus Terminal is where you can find the buses to Todos Santos is in 4a Calle 6-32 Zona 1, Huehuetenango.

Rutas Orientales (First and Second Class)
Has no first or second class. I went to Esquipulas (june/2008) and for the money that they charge, the services are not up to par. The bus stopped all the time to pick up passengers on our way to Esquipulas. The bathroom did not work. On the trip back home, the bus left late because there was not enough people going back…so what is the sense of having schedules..I changed seats at least twice because the seats had to tendency to fall back. The seat will not stay forward. The trip took for ever because of the constant stopping whether illegal or not it was just annoying. On both trips the drivers and helper were very professional, I guess that should be everyone’s priority.
So I’m recommending to remove the first and second class title from Rutas Orientales..Just make it a regular bus service with excellent drivers.
