Important Mayan discoveries in Guatemala

Cnn reports about the discovery of a sophisticated Mayan society in Cival by Archaeologist Francisco Estrada-Belli of Vanderbilt University.

“Excavations at a little-known Mayan ruin in Guatemala indicate it was once one of the largest and most sophisticated cities in the preclassic Mayan world.”

Also, reports about the discovery of an old tomb and skeleton of a Mayan queen by David Freidel, an Anthropology professor at Southern Methodist University.

“While excavating an ancient royal palace deep in the Guatemalan rainforest, archaeologists made a rare discovery — the 1,200-year-old tomb and skeleton of a Mayan queen.”

It’s nice to know about this discoveries. Let’s hope they’ll get a good preservation and perhaps some investment for ecoturism purposes.

Gracias Christian for commenting on my blog! We didn’t make it outside of Atitlan but I’m saving that for next time, for there will definitely be a next time.
