La Iguana Perdida

La Iguana PerdidaLa Iguana Perdida was first created as a backpacker hostel in Santa Cruz La Laguna, on the shores of the beautiful lake Atitlan, but recent modifications allow La Iguana Perdida to offer several double and triple rooms. The concept of this cozy little hotel encourages everyone that comes to this hidden beautiful place to enjoy their stay. In order to accomplish that La Iguana offers several activities like diving lessons or ecotourism tours.

The accommodation facilities allow 50 people to stay at La Iguana Perdida, 22 beds in three dormitories and the rest distributed in several private rooms. Seven shared bath facilities with hot water guarantee that you won’t have to wait on line. The restaurant/bar, providing all three courses at very low prices, is the place to gather at night to hear traveler stories, get some drinks, play some music or enjoy fun board games.

During the day you can take Spanish lessons, rent a kayak, take a hike to the nearby waterfalls, water-skiing, climb a volcano or participate in the famous Atitlan scavenger hunt, the cheapest and craziest tour of the lake with prices for crazy dress. The fun people from La Iguana Perdida strongly suggest that you dedicate part of your day to laze in their hammocks, sipping your favorite drink and enjoying the astonishing view of the lake. You can get to La Iguna Perdida just by boat (15 minute boat ride from Panajachel). Rooms range from $9 - $15.

I could not more highly recommend this place. The new rooms have magnificent views and are well worth splashing out for. Early morning yoga looking out over the volcanoes is a great way to start the day and walks, or chilling out in a hammock. What more could one ask for?
