Its location is at the north of the country in the mountainous region. The Verapaces is the region of the two sister provinces: Alta and Baja Verapaz.
This territory is home to 42 species of orchids, the quetzal, and other exotic animals and plants that grow in the wild. Here you will find incredible ecological reserves. The climate is chilly and rainy.
This region was discovered initially by the Spanish in 1543, but it was not until the end of the 18th century that it was colonized by German and Belgian families who found an enormous economic potential in this area. They established coffee and cardamom farms.
