Guatemala has several entertainment options that usually remain hidden from tourists traveling around the country. Guatemala City and Antigua offer by far the best options in entertainment and art cultural events, where interesting activities are held all year round.
In Guatemala City you can find discotheques, restaurants, bars and clubs in Zona Viva, a district of the city that holds most of the exclusive hotels in town. You’ll find here many amusement options to choose from. A cultural district is near Zona Viva, 4 Grados Norte where you will find cultural centers, a theater, art galleries, restaurants and bars. The capital city of the country has many museums, cinema theaters and a few casinos. Art cultural events are always happening in Guatemala City, from theater plays and art exhibitions to music concerts and festivals.
Antigua is almost as active as Guatemala City, offering different kinds of entertainment. You’ll find a plethora of coffee houses and restaurants holding live music concerts or art exhibitions. The nightlife in Antigua is not exactly vibrant, but is certainly interesting and cosmopolitan. Some of the most important art cultural festivals of the country are held in Antigua, and many museums and art galleries are spread throughout the city.
There are always attractive entertainment options on the main tourist destinations such as Panajachel, Flores and Quetzaltenango to name a few, with a modest yet out of the ordinary nightlife, where interesting people is always easy to meet.

I am not from Guatemala, but let me tell you something about traveling to tourist destinations (this is based on a lot of my friends). Do not let the political situation affect how you perceive the tourist locale. Take for example in the Philippines, we have political unrests here but still, tourism is great. There is a huge difference between tourism and politics.
